Plant-based snack Moku launches flagship product range

December 9, 2020

Moku, a plant-based snack designed to delight both vegans and carnivores, launched their flagship product range: mushroom-based jerky that promises the taste and texture of meat, with a clean label and allergen-free ingredient list.

Moku aims to offer consumers a savory, meat-like alternative to traditional jerky products that harnesses the power of plants, while remaining free of the top-eight allergens and with minimal processing.

“Raised on Oahu, Hawaii, an island with limited natural resources, I understood the importance of caring for the land or, malama ‘aina as we say in Hawaiian,” states Moku founder, Matt Feldman. “As I became older, I learned more about the immense carbon footprint caused by industrial factory farming, which led me to adopt a plant-based diet. I struggled to find an alternative to replace jerky, my go-to snack, that wasn’t filled with ingredients that sounded like they were made in a lab; so, I set out to create my own.”

After a year of development in Matt’s home kitchen, and partnering with renowned plant-based chef, Thomas Bowman, Moku was born. With ingredients including king oyster mushrooms, coconut aminos, chickpea miso and maple syrup, Moku’s jerky is a delectable plant-based snack that tastes as good as it makes you feel.

Originally backed by the co-founder and CEO of Thrive Market, Nick Green, Casper co-founder and COO, Neil Parikh, Mendocino Farms co-founder, Ellen Chen, and the founders of Soylent and Juneshine, Moku’s accessible, mission-focused product caught the attention of wellness-industry heavyweights Siddhi Capital, a strategic CPG investor that also spearheads Moku’s operations, and Vanterra Capital. Additional investors include KBW Ventures, Mana Ventures, and Barrel Ventures.

Moku also earned a coveted spot in Amazon’s 2020 invitation-only Emerging Brands Program.  Moku’s flavor and consistency is sure to satisfy flexitarians craving a non-GMO, soy-free snack and, Feldman believes, anyone open to an alternative that is as good for the planet as it is their health. Replacing a bag of beef jerky with a bag of Moku saves up to 12 square feet of land, 11 pounds of methane and 107 gallons of water.

“We’re not here just to make jerky. We’re here to encourage everyone to take mindful steps towards a healthier, sustainable future – from our snack choices to our day-to-day routines,” says Feldman. “Moku makes it easy to incorporate more plant-based foods into your diet; and small changes add up. Let’s take it one day at a time, one choice at a time.”

Moku is now available online at mokufoods.com in three distinct flavor options: Original, Hawaiian Teriyaki and Sweet & Spicy. The products can be purchased on the website for delivery across the United States.

The products will also be available for purchase on Amazon Prime in January 2021.
